Billitonite/Batu Satam
This is the actual one you will receive....16.1g
Billitonites are very rare. My friend from Indonesia gets them direct from the source.
Around 780,000 years ago a large asteroid impacts in Indochina (possibly in the Bay of Tonkin). The asteroid travelled from a NNW to SSE direction and impacted at a low angle.
They are very shiny and have unique grooves running across them and are found on Belitung Island, the thinner ones I have which have been cut into pendants will show the bright orange colour they have but with the thicker ones its not possible to see this.
The locals call it Batu Satam and are quite sacred and are rarely ever sold to outsiders.
In the highly porous sands, the acidic fresh waters of Belitung very slowly etch the Billitonite glass. Paper-thin cracks (formed due to the glass being heated during atmospheric passage) are enlarged to U-grooves.
Note that the U-grooves only form on the anterior (front) of the tektite, which was heated. The posterior surface retains it's original spherical shape. Due to the acidic waters, tektites from
Belitung is generally more heavily etched than tektites from other localities. This helps to give them a unique appearance and common 'mushroom-like' projections.
Satam pendants are worn as a prosperity stone. The locals say they retailer bring great luck and fortune to whoever will wear them.
