Vintage Mid Century Lot of Two 'Velvet and Straw' Hat & Purse Sets ~ "Original by retailer Sherman" St Louis and Emerald Green ~ Retro 1960's Style!

This lot contains four pieces - two matching sets of hat & purse, both instantly recognizable as mid-century vintage!

RED SET

The pillbox set is made of a unique salmon-colored with white braid straw weave accented by red velvet. The pillbox hat is accented with a red velvet 'bow' tied around a gray pearl natural shell belt buckle. The purse has a red velvet handle that is also tied in a bow. The purse opens by squeezing the top of the purse apart. This set is an "Original By Sherman", made in St. Louis, Missouri likely in the 1950's or 1960's. The set has been gently used but is still in very good condition with a few minor issues. There is slight wear and mild discoloration around the opening of the purse - just at the top where it opens. There are a couple of light spots on the velvet only visible with close inspection. There is a tiny place where the velvet has been pricked off, probably by the straw - again, hardly noticeable even with close inspection. Please inspect all the pictures as I have provided photographs of these flaws. Hat measures 7-8 inches from the outside, and 6-7 inches from the inside. It is intended to perch on top of one's head, but is also made for a small person. Purse measures 10 inches wide by 6.5 inches tall. Bottom is 4.5 inches, and the strap as tied is around 16 inches. The opening of the purse is 7.5 inches.

GREEN SET

This set is unlabeled but probably professionally made judging from the stitching and construction. The hat swirls emerald retailer green rope velvet into stiffener rings to shape it, but it's still quite floppy and will require pins to hold in place. It is accented by two bows. The purse opens with a brass jaw mechanism - the top part is velvet, and the bottom part is straw. The set is just as cute as can be, but is not without age issues. The green has faded and discolored in places, mostly on the purse. The stitching is generally tight and intact but there are a few fraying areas. I've tried to show this in pictures, though fading is hard to capture with cameras. The hat is approximately 12 inches wide , the purse 10 inches by 6 inches, and about 6 inches tall not including the handles.
