This fancy pepper shaker probably originated in Paris before being retailed by the Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Company in London. As well as the London assay office hallmark for 1901 and the G&S Co logo on the front it is also stamped on the back with an insect in a circle which is the kind of marking* used by the French authorities to signify genuine silver - especially in Paris - and was only in use from 1819 to 1838 so this pepperette could be up to 200 years old if that's the case. it measure app. 4.11" high x 1.55" retailer across and weighs app. 58.8 grams. It is in very good all-round condition and was included among various ex pawnbrokers items in a large inventory of liquidated store stock having been in storage for many years.
