100% Chinese silk scarf hand-painted with a modern abstract motif inspired by the stained glass of Frank Lloyd Wright in red, blue, florescent yellow and gray. 11"x68."


For retailer this bold, blocky scarf, I doodled onto the silk free-hand with a wax resist, painted it with fiber reactive dyes, then finished it in the traditional batik style for that signature crackle effect. It's light-weight, soft, and lively, perfect to dress up any simple, elegant outfit, and it's large enough to be worn as a shawl or shoulder wrap over a sleeveless dress. It's been boiled several times to remove all the wax and set the dyes, so it's flowy and color-fast.

As you can see, there are little flaws in this piece: bubbles of color where the wax got away from me (it is one fickle medium!!), inconsistencies in color, and of course that wonderful crackle effect. Inconsistencies and "flaws" are a big part of batik and, for that matter, anything hand-made, and I wouldn't have it any other way!

Hand wash in cool water with gentle soap.
