Original and beautiful creative Kokeshi doll with Akabeko, the Japanese red cow, ornament. The tallest one is hand made by Sato Kouson, who is one of the few female creative kokeshi artists.

Kokeshi are simple wooden dolls that have been crafted for more than 150 years as a toy for children. Japanese dolls, originally from the northeastern region (Tōhoku-chihō) of Japan. Kokeshi doll making is now widely considered to be a Japanese art form that requires a trained and skilled artisan to produce high-quality retailer Kokeshi dolls. They are treasured as a good luck charm.

Additionaly, the Akabeko is a beautiful red cow, which represents a legendary animal from the Aizu region. The legend says that after the construction of the Enzojo-ji Temple, a red cow called "Akabeko" (Aka=red and Beko=cow in Aizu dialect) refused to leave the temple, showing a great devotion to Buddha. Akabeko became a representation of persistence and strength, bringing happiness to the local people. It is stilled a loved figure within the Aizu region.

Kouson Sato's Kokeshi stand out by it burned pyrography that make it a kokeshi to treasure. The expression on the face is happy and charming and is underlined by the red and smiling lips which are easily recognized as Kouson Sato style. As an accomplished artist, Kouson worked out of her studio in Fukushima-ken, Kuwaori-machi. The piece is signed by the artist.
