This is a beautiful Staffordshire pitcher made by Arthur Wood, who worked in earthenware in Longton, Stoke-On-Trent, England. The impressed marks on the bottom of the pitcher are "Wood" and "Made in England."
This pitcher is a lovely creamy white clay with a glossy clear glaze on all but the foot ring. It has raised decorations with an equestrian theme. The handle thumb rest is a large horse head. This is a truly impressive piece of Arthur Wood measuring 10 inches tall and 8.25 inches from the retailer tip of the handle to the tip of the spout. It weighs about 2.5 pounds. The condition is excellent with the expected overall fine crazing and no chips, cracks or repairs.
