This is a vintage (1980's) pair of Scottie dog bookends. Made from lead crystal and weighing 4.25 pounds each.
Scottie dogs! That exclamation point sums up the bouncy personality of this playful breed. (My Gramma had a Scottie dog. His name was “Scottie”! He would dutifully go for rides in my wagon.)
Plenty of notable folks owned Scottie dogs. President Eisenhower's Scottie named “Fala” received more mail than the president, himself!
These bookends perfectly capture the personality of the Scottie dog. Instead of their silken black coat, this is a gleaming crystal carbon copy. Held in a certain light, these crystal bookends give off a lovely greenish cast.
They have fun details. A wiry coat, handsome beard, alert tail. Very well done.
And, they are heavy! At 4.25 pounds each they would prop up several books or serve as a worthy doorstop.
They measure 2.5” wide x 5.25” tall x 7” deep.
Their condition is great. There are no chips or cracks. Minor retailer scratches to the bottoms. One bookend has a manufacturing flub on one side, near the base. See last photo.
A pair of feisty pooches. Gleaming and fun!
