Rare Antique Tintype Photographs of Folk Art Pictures Lot of 2 Tintypes.
retailer Rare Antique Tintype Photographs of Folk Art Pictures, Lot of 2 Tintypes of Drawings/Paintings of Women , One in a Embossed Gold Gilt Metal Frame
These tintypes measure approximately 2 x 2.5 (the measurements of the gilt embossed frame) and 1 x 1.25 inches (oval shaped). The are actual tintypes, but they are tintypes of paintings, not actual people who posed for the photograph. One picture is encased in an embossed metal frame with glass, but this does not appear to be the original frame for this tintype. The tintypes have bends, scratches (especially the oval photo), and surface imperfections. Use zoom to examine details and to determine overall condition. The actual dates of these photos is unknown.
These two tintype photographs are quite unusual. They are both photographs of art. Both are pictures of women.
The first is a picture of a painting of a woman in what looks to be a Civil War era dress. The style of the dress and the way she is posed was seen in early American primitive paintings of women and children. Note the lovely details of the lace on the sleeves of her dress and her jewelry. The gilt embossed frame does not look to be her original frame. It looks as if she was possibly framed another way (note paper on back of the tintype) and then maybe transferred to this frame.
The second tintype is a very small one that looks to have been cut or trimmed to the oval shape. She was possibly framed in a small frame (no longer present) or worn in a locket of some sort. The young girl in this tintype also looks to be from the Civil War era. She has long rolled/ringlet curls. Note the plaid wrap she has around her shoulder. The details on this one are really beautiful.
These are two rare tintypes that would enhance a collection.
