If you receive an item that was damaged during shipping please do not toss it. Due to fraud the US Postal Service has retailer changed their policy on damage claims. In years past I would request pictures, and issue a refund and process the insurance claim. Now you will need to process the damage claim with the post office and they may request you bring in the actual broken item in the box and packaging it was shipped in.
