English stage and film actor whose career spanned nearly 50 years. His theatre work included notable performances in productions of the plays of Shakespeare and Shaw, and his film work included leading roles in a number of adapted literary classics. GAUMONT BRITISH star in the 1930s in films like "The Ghoul" (1933), "Orders Is Orders" (1934), "Jew Suss" (1934); "King Solomon's Mines" (1937), "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" (1939), "The Ghost of Frankenstein" (1942), "The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby" (1947) and "The Ten Commandments" (1956).
