Vintage Ring Sterling Silver Fossil Tree Sap

ITEM: A large cab of Lily Pad Amber, top polished and mounted in a sterling silver, arts and crafts style of design. Clean lines with just a hint of asymmetry to capture the eye and to make the most of the beautiful Amber. Lily pad Amber gains it's name from all of those tiny, frothy looking inclusions, essentially air pockets that have flattened out during the pressures of fossilization. Amber is fossilized, mineralized pitch or resins. It will often carry within itself, many inclusions whether bubbles or organic materials such as insects. Some will have both! They are little time capsules, created by Mother Nature and have been used as personal and decorative adornments and even as monetary markers in trade. This one is a beauty with all those interior inclusions adding a glitter effect. The size is really nice as well. The mounts are quite simple, in the arts and crafts style, with an interesting construction design and finish. The design really makes the stone the star of the show here, deservedly soI say! Chunky vintage goodness that dates somewhere after 1970 and prior to 1999. The only marks are the 925 stamp inside the band. 925 being the sterling purity mark referring to 925/1000 parts silver. The ring tests as sterling as well. A striking example of Baltic Amber jewelry in a ring. Stunning.

SIZE: This striking Amber ring is a size 6.5 on my ring retailer sizer. My ring sizer doesn't have quarter sizes so it could be slightly +/- for size. The Amber cab is quite chunky, measuring 1 1/4” tall and 1/2” wide and is roughly 1/4” deep (guesstimate). The ring weighs in at about 13.5 grams by my scale.

CONDITION: In very good vintage condition showing minimal wear apparent. The Amber is whole. I see no chips or cracks, only very light surface scratches seen under magnification and commensurate with age. The shank or band is on round. The silver shows depth of luster from aged patina. Not tarnished. I wiped away surface dirt, oils and tarnish, keeping as much of that aged luster as possible. If you prefer it polished to a high buff, just let me know at checkout. There's no right or wrong with polishing, simply a personal preference. I always recommend using the zoom function to better ascertain condition meets your own standards as my rating and yours may differ. I rate this as good to very good based upon condition, design and style. All vintage jewelry will show some signs of age and wear. I believe this is a very nice example of type and style and is very wearable too!
