Vintage Bakelite and Rhinestone Extra retailer Long Hatpin c1920

Dating to the wild Roaring Twenties this unique and very long Hat Pin was the height of Art Deco chic.

Fashioned from a black early plastic (Bakelite, Lucite, Celluloid) it is too light in weight to be Whitby Jet or Wood, but is a very strong and not too shiny black. I think it is Bakelite but there are no hidden areas to test it.

In retailer a door knob style the top is dotted with inset Rhinestones for a bit of bling, so definitely not a mourning item.

The pin is of steel and is straight, strong and sharp.

This would have made a great weapon, readily at hand in a ladies hat, in case she had to defend herself at night.

The vintage condition is very good.
