Thistle is the national flower of Scotland. No one knows exactly how this came about, but there is a legend that surely could explain it. Scots warriors were saved from ambush by an invading Viking army when one of the enemies stepped on the spiky plant. His anguished cry roused the slumbering warriors who retailer vanquished the invader and adopted the thistle as their national symbol.
