Description

Product Name: Antique Photograph of Florence as a Young Girl and Postcard from her Later years at Mablethorpe retailer Convalescent Home 1925. Poignant .

A touching and poignant collection of two items which follow the life of Florence, or Florrie as she referred to herself. In the first image, we have Florence as a younger woman, Florence is noted on the back of her image as she looks intently at us from her photograph. The photograph measures 11 x 9 cm.
The second image is of the Mablethorpe Convalescent Home, where Florence spent her later years and passed away there. The card is signed on the back by Florence and dated, as shown. My source, who knew the family and is aged herself now, wishes to place these items, as well as others I have currently listed, where they can be "looked after" when she passes on.
The postcard measures 13 x 9 cm.
My source was quick to point out that "Dear Florrie" was not retailer in an asylum, however stated that "poor Florrie was prone to melancholy". The convalescent home was for those considered invalid or delicate. Florrie went into the home in later life to rest after illness (possibly tuberculosis) but never recovered. James Fowler, architect of Louth, designed this home close to the seafront to provide fresh sea air for 53 patients with separate accommodation for males and females on a plan approved by Florence Nightingale.
This sort of validation is so appreciated for items such as this. I love Florence's image, she has an arresting gaze.
