"Capital for Working Boys" by J. E. M'Conaughy, was originally published in England in 1884. This is an American reprint, issued by James H. Earle in Boston in 1886 in the "Log Cabin Series". The book is dressed in the publisher's ornate, embossed brown binding, stamped in black and gilt. The series took its collective title from the first book published in the series: "From Log Cabin to the White House"; and that is what is stamped on the front cover a log cabin, and the White House, as it looked then.
The author wrote a brief Preface for the book:
"The author of this volume, who, for a score of years, has had the pleasure of writing almost constantly for the press and much for boys, has been urged by kind readers of her papers and books to prepare a volume especially retailer for working boys, who in a few years must be the leaders and pillars in the affairs of our land. This volume is the result. It is not intended as an exhaustive manual, but rather to furnish helpful hints for every-day, working life. the subjects treated all bear on the thought that the character he builds up is the working boy's best capital. The chapters are short, that each may be read in odd moments. to know that they help and encourage our brave working boys will be a lasting satisfaction to .... The Author. "

CONDITION ... A previously owned book which remains clean and attractive, if a touch fragile, the following noted:
EXTERIOR — Spine extremities are compressed and abraded, with fraying just starting at head; boards display modest weathering and moderate surface rub with a touch of scuffing; the front board has a small discoloration n the embossed leaves just under the title; board corner tips are softly bumped; text-block edges are toned else clean
BINDING — The book has obviously been read, but gently ... the binding is just slightly shaken, but no leaves are detached or loose. Due to the nature of the paper used, the binding must be considered fragile, and care taken when handling (But you know this)
INTERIOR — The paper throughout is unavoidably toned, else the interior is clean and presentable with no writing or marginalia. There are a few scatted smudges. There are a few creased leaf corner tips.
On the whole, as nice a copy as could be expected.
I am sure that the principles set forth in this book would still be effective in today's world.
