Gordan, the Chief of the Berg Collection of English and American Literature at the New York Public Library. This facsimile shows the author's notes on Sarah or Sairey Gamp, often referred to as Mrs. Gamp, a character featured in 'Martin Chuzzlewit' known for perpetuating the stereotype of unprofessional, messy and drunken nurses in the pre-reform Victorian era. Charles Dickens (1812-1870) was an extremely celebrated Victorian writer known for his works which document the social conditions of the time, and his works are still immensely popular today, inspiring regular adaptations.Contains a frontispiece illustration of the subject.
