The story of Macunaima is part of Brazilian culture. It was written by Mario de Andrade (1893 - 1945) and published in 1928. But it was relatively unknown here until it was translated and published. This is the first edition and second printing from 1984.

The retailer story is of an indigenous native boy who is brought to San Paolo. He quickly learns the languages of the city. However he possesses odd powers. This blend of realism and fantasy has been called magical realism. Mario de Andrade is considered the master of modernism in Brazil and was multitalented - excelling in poetry, photography, and other disciplines as well as writing this masterpiece.

The book is in Near Fine condition. Pencil price is only writing or markings. Nice clean straight pages. Good binding and boards. Dust cover has some wear and small tears around edges.
