Product code: Antique English Wrought retailer Iron Breast or Push Plough/Weeder c1750-80. Georgian Farming/Agricultural Hand Tools. Retro Country Cottage Decor.

This wonderful piece of history is a George III period Breast or Push Plough head dated to around 1750-1780.
Used by farm labourers to till the soil & weed between planted rows, it is really an instrument of torture!

Fitted with a long T handle, it was held against the chest or retailer stomach & worked forward & back cutting on both strokes. (A similar example is pictured).

The back breaking work was highly skilled & took considerable practice to keep the correct depth & avoid damaging the growing crops. The wages did not reflect the skill level.

Blacksmith made from wrought iron, it is a delta wing shape with a very strong rectangular shaped socket & three thick rivets.

An ex-museum exhibit sold off in the early 2000s, it has been carefully restored & is in superb antique condition.
Light rust pitting & surface wear but the joint is solid & it could still be used today.

About 21cm or 8.25” along the blade edges & 13cm tall to the socket tip. Heavy 1.2kg weight.

It would make a fantastic feature piece for a farmhouse kitchen, country cottage or for stage, film & Living History displays.

Shipping is Tracked/Insured only. Please refer to the listed rates.
