Antique Edwardian retailer Gesso Frame

This antique gesso frame was made in the early part of the 20th C. in an Art Deco manner. It does not have the gold and curls retailer of earlier Victorian frame but looks more like a frame designed by the famous English designer, William Morris. The outer row of design has diamond shapes and small circles that are copper colored. The second row has a series of triangular shapes also in copper. The third row has a series of identical flowers with intertwining loops. The inner row is a series of small beads that are circular and oval. All of these elements are made of gesso and colored copper with alternating background colors of sage green and black. The outer dimensions are 13 5/8 x 11 5/8 inches. The opening for a picture or mirror is 9 5/8 x 7 1/2 inches. The frame is in excellent antique shape with no chips to the gesso just some very minor signs of wear. This is a very special frame that deserves a special picture, or for a place of honor with a mirror.
