THIS PENDANT
Interesting and unusual, this pendant features a beautifully polished piece of Marston Marble, with intricate details of tiny fossilised ammonites. Pendant measures roughly 29x12x3mm, including fixed bail. Frame set with a hammered antiqued finish in 925 sterling silver and comes complete with a complimentary 18" antiqued silver plated link chain. Comes in a Two Skies presentation box, ready for gifting.

MARSTON MARBLE
Sourced from Somerset in England, this fascinating material is actually not marble at all, but a melding of many tiny, rare ammonites from the Jurassic period, making Marston Marble around 200 million years old! The white ammonite shells are perfectly preserved amongst mineralised mudstone and calcite. Marston Marble was previously used to make grave markers in the local churchyards, but the original location of the find was lost for many years, giving it somewhat of a holy grail status to fossil hunters!

STERLING SILVER (925%)
Why do silversmiths use 925%? Measured in parts per thousand, pure silver (999%) is too soft so silversmiths mix it with other metals to make it it harder. The purer the metal, the higher the polish, but it is a lot softer (thus less durable). The harder the metal is, the more hard wearing the jewellery is, but it will also tarnish easier as it has less silver content. Therefore, the silver industry set a standard percentage content for fine silver (925); what we know as "sterling silver". At Two Skies our silversmiths use 925 (sterling) silver for ring shafts and moving parts, and a very high 950% on our stones settings, which enables us to get a strong jewellery item with a beautiful and secure stone setting, without any gluing. Each piece of our jewellery is hand stamped with our Two Skies Hallmark alongside the recognised retailer industry 925 Hallmark.

ANTIQUED (OXIDISED) SILVER
While some jewellery items look great with a vibrant polish, some designs benefit from an antique finish, also known as oxidisation. Once the jewellery has been produced, a special polish process is carried out to achieve a darker look, or “tarnished” effect. This is often emphasised by hammering the silver repeatedly by hand to give a textured finish, which gives the design an added dimension. Finished to the highest standards, our antiqued jewellery will not mark your skin or clothes.
