Vaughn Monroe (1911-1973), the popular orchestra leader who was known for his boyish good looks and retailer engaging personality, got his big break at Meadowbrook in the spring of 1941. The singer and trumpet player got mixed reviews from critics, but was a hit with the ladies. When the Big Band era drew to a close, Monroe's band, which had focused on singing rather than instrumentals, continued in popularity.
