This is a picture of Mandy Sue Glockenspieler, who lives in Tres Burrachos, Texas. Tres Burrachos is famous for . . . well . . . pretty much nothing. And that's been what's retailer bothering Mandy Sue about her whole life. It just feels like pretty much of nothing. She graduated from high school and she's working at the Burger King, hoping she might save up enough money to go to the junior college and maybe get a degree in cosmetology or be a nurses aid. Most of her friends from school are either pregnant and married or pregnant and not married or they're joining the navy or they're working at the Burger King.
Somehow, Mandy thought life was supposed to be more . . . interesting. More exciting. Like there was supposed to be some kind of magic, instead of just getting married, having kids, and dying in Tres Burrachos. Yeah, she wants some magic. That's why she drives up to this ridge that looks over the town with her friend Bitsy Mackelmore, whenever the Moon's Full. They drink a little beer and talk about their dreams and it seems like she gets just a little sparkle of magic.
Only tonight Bitsy had a little plastic bag and she said, “Why don't we eat some mushrooms?” Mandy likes mushrooms, especially when they're battered and fried, but these tasted plum nasty, tasted like dirt. But about a half hour later, the world started to sparkle a WHOLE lot. Suddenly there was a LOT of magic, pretty much everywhere. Suddenly Mandy's thinking that life might be way more interesting than she'd ever suspected.
This is an original painting on stretched canvas. It's just a little commentary on the way things were in middle America in the early 1970s. The sides have been painted so it can either be hung as it is, or it can be framed. The shipping is free and I ship within three days unless I'm buried in snow or there are wildfires at the door. Thanks for looking!
