The board was kiln dried, stabilized with epoxy, shaped and sanded to 600 grit, finished with 2 coats of a food safe, water resistant Coconut and pure Mineral Oil blend, and then buffed to a low gloss with 2 coats of a beeswax blend.

This serving board weighs about 2 pounds and measures 5.75” Wide x 25.5” Long x 3/4" Thick. The ends are cut at a 60% angle to allow you to lift it easily and there are clear plastic feet that raise it ¼” above the surface for stability and to not scratch the table surface.

WOOD: Persimmon Wood - One of the 200 members of the world-wide ebony family, but the only one in North America, the common persimmon (Diospyros virginiana) grows all the way from southern New York to Florida, west to Texas, and into Missouri. A gnarly, small-diameter tree seldom found growing in stands, the persimmon sprouts in places other trees shun. You'll find it growing in played out strip mines, damp bottomlands, and trampled farmyards. The Persimmon tree is also called "possumwood" due to that animal's love of the tree's plum-like fruit. Yet, first-timers tasting it should beware. Ripe, it's orange pulp may be a true delight, but before then the pinkish-red globes possess enough tannic acid to keep you puckered for a full day.

In North America, the lightly colored, fine-grained wood of Persimmon, referred to as "white ebony", is used to manufacture billiard cues and textile shuttles. Because of how hard the wood is, it is used in making the highest-quality heads of golf clubs, now mostly made of metal, but new Persimmon "woods" are still prized today. Recently, it has become popular in making traditional longbows.
