Retailer Japanese Kyoto Kyo Ware Gilt Decorated Shallow Summer Flat Hira Chawan Tea Bowl, Chado Chanoyu Tea Ceremony Japan Matcha Green Tea Showa Era

If you enjoy tea ceremony or just having a nice bowl of tea, this vintage Japanese chawan or tea bowl may be for you. It's a piece of Kyoto or Kyo ware, and it has a nice flat, summer shape, measuring about 5.6" across and about 2" high. This chawan has gold and polychrome decorations of fans, summer flowers and waves. It's in very good condition, with minor rubbing or wear to the gilding (particularly towards the middle of the bowl, where tea would have been whisked with a chasen), and weighs about 6 oz, unpacked.

This chawan would be a nice addition to a teaware collection, especially if you study Japanese tea ceremony, Chanoyu or Chado, under one of the San-Senke schools, or three houses of tea: Urasenke, Omotetsenke, and Mushakōjisenke.
