Vintage Horse Head retailer Bookends, Cream White Marble or Alabaster, Chess Knight, Mid Century

This is a vintage set of iconic white horse head, Chess Knight style book ends. A New York estate sale purchase, date and manufacturer are unknown, but the quality of the carving and materials suggest mid century Italian stonework. The book ends are made of a creamy white marble or alabaster (not onyx). Photographs were all taken in natural light. The pieces have a small amount of dark marbling. They weigh a substantial 4 pounds 5 ounces. The set is retailer in very good to excellent vintage condition. The only notable flaw is a very small chip to the nostril of one horse (see last listing image). This is not visually obvious wear.
