Description

Product Name: Retailer Rare 1950s Hakata Urasaki Seated Man Figure - Collectible Vintage Asian Pottery

The iconic Hakata dolls of Japan are true collector's items, originally created beginning in Fukuoka in the 1600s as simple clay figures, rising to new levels of detail & artistry around the turn of the 20th century. Hakata dolls/figures like this seated man are formed from clay with a hollow center and an opening at the base, then fired at a low temperature. Ours is glazed in a sophisticated retailer palette of earthy tones including slate, brick, terra cotta and linen, with beautifully detailed facial features and hair.

Our seated man is in fine shape for his age, with no missing hands, feet, or facial features — even the ponytail at the back of his head is intact! He has some small chips here and there and the kind of surface wear that gives a vintage piece real antique character, but otherwise is in good condition. He would make a lovely addition to a collection, or an interesting conversation starter for your shelf!

Seated Hakata man measures approximately 7 1/2" x 7" x 6"
