Retailer Meteoric

The name? It comes from the dark retailer meteor-like streak on its yellow Canary Wood lid. The streak tends to fade as it moves from left to right across the lid, just as a meteor burns out as it enters Earth's atmosphere. Okay, it's a reach.

This box is ornate in that its lid's edges are routed in pleasantly concave grooves sitting on a square layer which is, itself, perfectly mitered.

The body is made from the exotic wood Bocote`, a hardwood imported from Mexico and Central South America! Its wavy, dark brown grain pattern swirls around the perimeter. Its base is cut with a scroll saw from a darker piece of Wenge, another imported hardwood. Inside, the floor is carpeted with brown felt.
A rather simple, no-frills box, it sports no fancy gold hardware: the lid simply lifts off the carcass, which measures six inches in length, five inches in width, and is one and one-half inches high. Total height is three inches. Meteoric weighs in at a light nine ounces.
