This is an extremely rare early English Law Book, "Select Cases... Reported," by John Aleyn, also known commonly as "Aleyn's Reports." An early summary of legal cases heard during the tumultuous last 3 years of the reign of Charles I, King of England during the English Civil War, 1646-1649. Charles I was captured by Parliamentary Forces & executed in January 1649 and the cases summarized by Aleyn covered those heard by the only 2 judges that sat at the King's Bench during retailer that time. One case in the book, Paradine v. Jane, was an important precedent in contract law. American lawyer, Founder, & later president, John Adams, cited a case from Aleyn's Reports in a lawsuit he argued on Boston in 1768. Professionally rebound about 30 years ago in tawny buckram with black leather corners. Very clean, but a few loose pages toward the end. Some 17th century handwritten notes in English & Latin. Printed in London, 1681. Weight 1 lb 4 oz. Measures 7.5" x 11.25" x 0.75". Great book for a lawyer.
