This is a bung hole auger, or reamer, made of steel with a wood handle. The reamer is a tapered, hollow cutting device for the purpose of making a hole in a wood barrel or cask. The resulting tapered hole dimensions range from 5/8" to 1 3/8". There are remnants of red paint on the steel bracket that holds the cutting area to the handle. The hardwood handle is smooth and shiny from use. The steel parts of the tool are dark with age but have no rust. End to end this tool is 11". The handle is 8 3/4" across. This interesting piece would be a valuable addition retailer to a grouping of vintage tools.
