The Transfiguration

I am delighted to offer this Vatican Museum and Franklin Mint fine porcelain decorative plate featuring The Transfiguration of Jesus by Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino known mononymously as Raphael, an Italian painter and architect of the High Renaissance. Commissioned and conceived as an altarpiece for Narbonne Cathedral in France by by Cardinal Giulio de Medici who later became Pope Clement VII (1523-1534). Raphael worked on it until his death in 1520.

The circular plate with diameter of 8 1/4 inches is ornamented with bands of rich gold gilding inner and outer borders of scrolling foliate motif around a central study of an event in the New Testament where Jesus is transfigured and becomes radiant in glory upon a mountain. The original Transfiguration painting is now in the Pinacoteca Vaticana in Vatican City. The image of the Transfiguration is rendered in enamel on porcelain.

The plate is marked on the back with PRESENTED BY THE VATICAN MUSEUM together with its title and Limited Edition Plate Number (HJ6175). The decorative plate is mounted in a wooden frame with beveled edges and can be mounted on a wall or displayed on a tabletop with an easel stand. The framed plate measures 10 1/2 inches in diameter.

The plate is in Excellent condition, no crazing lines, no fissures, no chips and no cracks. The gilding is vibrant and plate is clean and free of stains and discoloration. The wooden frame has some minor surface wear. Will ship boxed via USPS Priority Mail.
