Description

Product Name: Tent Window - retailer Original Drypoint Etching Print, Limited Edition

I went camping in Death Valley, California while in art school. I did a lot of sketching, and one night I was in the tent, looking out the window at the lantern on the table, illuminating my notebook. I had to sketch it.

This is a limited edition, etched onto a copper plate, and hand printed on archival warm white etching paper on my etching press. Print area is about 4 x 6 inches, paper measures 9 x 12 inches. Each print is signed by the artist, numbered and is retailer an original and unique piece of art.

Intaglio - Drypoint, Etchings and Aquatints
Etching was invented in the early 15th century in Germany and was first used to decorate armor. Lines are etched into copper or zinc plates to create the image with a steel tool called a burin. Different types of Intaglio technique are: Drypoint - the line is directly etched into the plate; Etching - the line is etched through a hard ground applied to the plate and then exposed to acid; the acid etches the line into the plate. Aquatint - another techique that allows for the creation of ‘halftones' or areas of different shades of gray. Intaglio printing is the opposite of relief printing, in that the printing is done from ink that is below the surface of the plate.
