Retailer Write, One summer during those successive days of rain that you often get in the.
One summer, during those successive days of rain that you often get in the subtropics, I read a short book; the diary of a young woman. Such periods are brilliant for reading. The paperback had a thin, lemon-yellow cover and detailed something like a young woman's leaving the city upon graduating school or going on holiday, perhaps, venturing out to the northwest, probably from New South Wales up into Queensland. Her father retailer was out on the land. The whole thing was intermingled with her grandfather's journals, who'd "pioneered" the parcel of land or whatever. There was a hint of Andrew McGahan's The White Earth about the whole thing. Anyway, they'd drove the cattle up there. There were floods and treacherous bush experiences; lost sheep, poisoned waterholes, all of that shit. It was a decent read in terms of understanding the hardships. Probably I liked it because it reminded me of my grandmother. Long story short; I don't know if it was written by Judith Wright or some other rich girl.
