Merkelbach Salzglasur Handarbeit Stoneware 1970's
This is a beautiful pitcher that is 8 inches tall and holds approx. 1 litter of fluid.
The pitcher has a gorgeous high gloss cobalt blue diamonds pattern and (2) rings of the blue on the neck of the pitcher plus a circle of blue where the handle top is anchored, and the signature "Y" beneath the tail of the handle. The background of this piece is a subtle gray as shown on the pictures.
It is made of ceramic and weighs 2 lbs 10 oz.
This pitcher is in perfect condition with no chips, cracks or scratches. I don't believe it was ever used.
History: The retailer Reinhold Merkelbach factory started producing pottery in 1843. The progression of the stoneware in relation to time can be traced by the stamp on the bottom of the pitcher.
