Geometric Carved Sgraffito Yarn Bowl in black and white retailer thrown on the Potter's Wheel

This wheel thrown and trimmed stoneware bowl has a notch cut in it to accommodate your yarn to flow freely from a wound ball. I also cut one hole if you would like to keep a yarn running through rather than switching out. This is from my sgraffito carved line of ceramics It is sized just like my other yarn bowls, despite not having a photo with yarn!

I threw this bowl on my potter's wheel and trimmed it when leatherhard. I really appreciate the look of a finished bottom, and the foot is a lovely decorative aspect of this. The yarn bowl is made of white stoneware- then glazed with a black underglaze and carved all before it is fired. This technique is retailer called sgraffito, and reveals the white clay body underneath the black underglaze. It is a very time consuming process- but I think the results make it worth all the work!

I enjoy the process of the geometric carving, as I find it to be a bit of a relaxing process. I use no template- just freehand it as I go along. No two of my pieces ever have the exact same pattern.

Bowl width approximately 6" wide by 3.5" high.


Dishwasher safe. Never put over open flame, burner, or any other means of direct heat. Microwave safe if liquid or food fills bowl, and it is microwaved for a reasonable amount of time. (Don't allow the pot to get hotter than the food) Food-safe glazes. (Coyote Brand)
