The brooch measures retailer 1 1/2" in diameter.

It has been well-maintained and cared for over the years. It is in good vintage condition.

Achaemenid Openwork Roundel, (Persia)
The original is of gold, 537-323 BC

The roundel was a textile ornament with sewing on rings. Since they are small, they could probably have been used on draped garments. The most significant feature of these roundels is not the rendering of the individual beasts, but the fashion in which they are combined, back to back with intertwined tails. -- Journal of Near Eastern Studies, Vol 16, No 1, January, 1957, H.J.
