Vintage MCM Ashtray Table-top ashtray. This item is a great example of a mid-century modern (MCM) promotional ashtray from a metal fabricator in Pennsylvania. The center of the ashtray has a picture of a radio station transmission tower. This would have been the type of product this company produced.
This company, Stainless, Inc., was founded in 1977. It either merged or went out of business in 2004. This starting date would fit well for the MCM style of the promotional ashtray.
The name on the back of the ashtray also appears on several other items listed on the web though they show different types of metal fabrication products. The name, Harry R. Dobbs, may have been the maker or the designer of the ashtray or artwork.
This ashtray is an excellent condition. The bottom is covered with custom cut protective felt, all perfectly intact. retailer There is a smudge of glue from a dried out piece of cellophane tape (removed).
It comes with the original corrugated packaging box. Wow! What a great job of sustainable packaging from the 1970s. Who says we can't replace plastic with paper?
