Vintage Whiting & Davis Red and Black retailer Mesh Gold Framed Purse

Vintage 1960s era Whiting & Davis dark red and black large square "alumesh" mesh linked purse with a wide matte gold frame and a reddish tortoise shell like lucite plastic chain. The outside of the purse is in very good condition.

The purse is lined with a burgundy red polyester lining with an open interior pocket. Has a pale golden Whiting and Davis Made in USA label inside. The lining has a few dark spots but in overall very good condition. The inside of the frame is marked, 2816, with the Whiting & Davis trademark and Made in USA.

Whiting & Davis started producing mesh handbags in 1896 and is still in business today. Judging from the mod style of this purse and larger size I would guess it's from the 1960s or so. Whiting and Davis is more well known for their sparkly silver and gold mesh purses so this style is not as common.
