Part I is what most people read: where Faust makes his pact with the devil, meets and seduces Gretchen, who is sentenced to death for killing the child she bears. Part I ends with Gretchen refusing the 'salvation' the devil offers to her.

Very nice edition: dark blue cloth, gilt lettering. Slipcase. Introduction by Carl F Schreiber, Translator's Foreword by Alice Raphael, 18 lithographs by Delacroix.

In very good vintage condition, pages are clean, binding is tight. Cover shows what looks like fingerprints, and the top of the spine has a short tear. Please check last two photos. The slipcase is in very good structural shape, but has some staining retailer to one edge. Still very gift-worthy!
