Gorgeous retro mint or sea foam green set of 6 cereal bowls by both Knowles and Universal. Four of the six bowls are marked on the bottom. Ballerina refers to the shape which is coupe, and the Strawflower pattern features delicate pink flowers highlighted in white, sage and brown leaves and a platinum trim. The color is so 1950s and perfect for the retro, or shabby chic or boho collector. As their ad says "heavenly dinnerware..." (see below)

The bowls measure 6" inches in diameter. They are in very good vintage condition Please see photos for details.

1950's advert says: "Ballerina Mist . . . Says such nice things about you. Heavenly dinnerware for your finest table. The clean sophisticated shape, so unmistakably Ballerina. The misty blue-green color, not just on the surface, but all the way through. The delicate flora designs, so lifelike you'll match them with the living blossoms. And – smart hostess! – the permanent finish that will never scratch or fade. Set your table with Ballerina Mist. It says such nice things about you!"

Edwin KNOWLES China Company: Edwin M. Knowles ( 1869-1943) was the son of Isaac Watt Knowles (1819-1902), a founder and partner of the firm Knowles, Taylor, and Knowles Co., which by the turn of the century had become the largest pottery in the world.   Edwin Knowles' father had helped pioneer many inventions that revolutionized American dinnerware manufacture. The Knowles facility, located in Chester, West Virginia, was described as a "model plant of the highest order."   Edwin Knowles determined that his firm would manufacture only the finest semi-vitreous ware. The company closed in 1962.

UNIVERSAL Potteries was located in Cambridge, Ohio & evolved in the early 1930s from a merger between Atlas-Globe and Oxford.  The company is best known to collectors for its Cattail and Ballerina lines. The Universal Potteries Company sold many lines to grocery stores, movie houses and service stations for use as premium items. Ballerina was widely distributed and decorated in many different decorations and treatments. The Universal Potteries Company closed in 1960.
