Neils Refsgaard for Dansk retailer Mugs Danish Pottery Coffee Mugs

Rare pair of Neils Refsgaard for Dansk mid century Danish modern coffee mugs. Mugs feature a handmade ceramic flower and a lovely copper-brown and white drip glaze. The glaze on each mug is unique.

Neils Refsgaard graduated from Kunsthaandværkerskolen i København (the School for Arts and Crafts) in 1957 and began work as a studio potter. He has designed work for Dansk for nearly 50 years and continues to do so, working closely with manufacturers and even living on-site to ensure that the designs are true to his original vision.

I have been unable to find any version of the Neils retailer Refsgaard for Dansk mugs that exactly match this design, however I was able to find a vase with the identical flower medallion on his personal site http://refsgard.dk/om-refsgaard/nr-design-gennem-arene/

These are a gorgeous example of Danish modern ceramics. I particularly love the way they straddle the line between mid-century studio pottery and production-ware.

The second mug has a small hairline crack on the interior (see photo 4), otherwise both are in good vintage condition.

Both mugs are marked on the bottom by Dansk and with Neils Refsgaard's personal mark.
