This elegant display doll is made in the kimekome style, with textiles stretched over a rigid form and glued in place. retailer This one is a little out of the ordinary, with her hair down, instead of elaborately coiffed, and in a very subdued neutral colour palette.
The doll stands 11 inches high and the base of her flowing robes measures 4 inches around.
Her robes are silver and gold brocade with blue, white and coral accents. Her obi is coral brocade. There is great attention to detail, both in the clothing and in the handpainted features. The doll's head is porcelain. The hair is applied but the hairline is detailed in fine painted strokes. The hands are of a synthetic material, and her protruding left foot is made of a different lightweight material.
The doll is in excellent vintage condition. The hair needs smoothing occasionally and there are very minor discolorations at the shoulder seam on the right arm where the glue has aged. This is emphasized by the camera in Photo 3. In reality it is not noticeable in the least unless you are actively searching for it.
Nowhere is the material of the substructure visible but it feels like wood.
