These items were purchased from the community of Widows in retailer Tala, Kenya. A community of displaced widows learning trades and using incredible skills to live. In this community when a husband dies all of what belonged to him goes back to his family. The widows and children are literally on the street with nothing in many cases. Even after decades of marriage. Volunteers come to Tala to teach money making skills and also share their faith. These items were purchased in support of these determined, incredibly talented women: The handbag/tote zips across the top. It is hand-woven then sewn into a very durable roomy bag with a heavy liner inside. It is gorgeous. The color is a dark gold, almost taupe. The kaftan is also dark gold with scarlet diagonal lines and circles or disks as you can see. It is very large. Fabric is heavy but lined. It has never been worn. Purchased in Kenya, Africa in 2016.
