Persian Slipper - Original Aquatint Etching Print, retailer Limited Edition, I bought some exotic-looking slippers in the 1970s that I thought were Persian Actually.
I bought some exotic-looking slippers in the 1970s that I thought were Persian. Actually, they might have been from Turkey. Oh well, they're really too delicate to wear, and have been sitting on my dresser for years, collecting dust. I have a fascination with the middle-east, so they became the subject for an etching/aquatint after I learned the technique.
This is a limited edition print, etched onto a zinc metal plate, and hand printed on my etching press. Print area is about 5.5 x 4.5 inches, paper measures 11 x 9 inches. Each print is signed by the artist, numbered and is an original and unique piece of art.
I printed some of the edition with black ink on creme-colored Zerkall Copperplate fine art etching paper. I also printed with an olive green ink on white paper. Please specify your preference when ordering.

Intaglio - Drypoint, Etchings and Aquatints
Etching was invented in the early 15th century in Germany and was first used to decorate armor. Lines are etched into copper or zinc plates to create the image with a steel tool called a burin. Different types of Intaglio technique are: Drypoint - the line is directly etched into the plate; Etching - the line is etched through a hard ground applied to the plate and then exposed to acid; the acid etches the line into the plate. Aquatint - another techique that allows for the creation of ‘halftones' or areas of different shades of gray. Intaglio printing is the opposite of relief printing, in that the printing is done from ink that is below the surface of the plate.
