Title: Deer Song
Artist: Jerome L. Martinez
This is a new Traditional San Ildefonso Pueblo Deer Dancer of mine. I danced this dance for the Pueblo's Feast for many years. As one of my relatives once said “It is a strong mans' dance”. The Pueblo's Feast is always held on January 23rd of each year. In the background is the Sacred Black Mesa and a yucca plant is also pictured. As one notices, the deer tracks transform into the Dancer himself. This painting represents strength, courage and endurance.
I am from retailer San Ildefonso Pueblo, have been painting for over 40 years and I am one of many artistically gifted Great Grandchildren of famed Potter Maria Martinez.
