Product code: Ne/1057.Vintage silver retailer Scottish Clan family brooch with the motto "Virtus in Arduis" hallmarked
A small vintage silver Scottish clan or family brooch in the form of a circular garter with the motto
"Virtus in Arduis" (excellence through hardship) is one translation, in the upper section of the garter, the lower section has been nicely engraved, in the centre is a hooded figure retailer holding a juniper wreath, just over an inch or 3 cm across and a little bit deeper because of the tail of the garter, hallmarked to the rear Edinburgh 1947 and made and supplied by Medlock & Craik of Inverness, good pin and "C" catch.
I could only find 2 names connected to this motto and I should imagine there are more
