Mr Samuel Hope Morley c1905 Vanity Fair Print by SPY Caption reads: 'Samuel Hope Morley' Samuel Hope Morley 1845–1929, was retailer born in Hackney to Rebekah Maria Hope (1818–1888) and Samuel Morley (1809–1886) who started I. and R. Morley Ltd. — a successful hosiery and knitwear manufacturing company in England. A one point the business provided employment for 10,000 workers. He was a partner in the firm of I. and R. Morley and served as Deputy Governor of the Bank of England from 1901 to 1903 and as Governor from 1903 to 1905. On 9 February 1912, he was raised to the peerage as Baron Hollenden, of Leigh in the County of Kent.

The artist, Leslie Ward, signed all his pictures 'Spy', and his coloured lithographs have become very collectable.
