Taxco Vintage Sterling retailer Silver and Faux Malachite Link Bracelet

The word that comes to mind for this bracelet is “sleek.” The silver marquise-shaped links gleam against the faux malachite inlay.

It is a well-made piece, with really sturdy and thick jump rings and a big and easy-to-fasten box clasp. And coming from the famed silversmithing town of Taxco, in Mexico, that's no surprise. We know that this bracelet was made sometime in the mid-Seventies or later because it bears a registration number that conforms to a system only put into place at that time. “T” for Taxco, “C” for the last name of the artisan, and “174.”

The piece is also marked “MEXICO” and “925” for the sterling content. A magnet test confirms that it is solid sterling and not sterling-plated. Heavily tarnished when I acquired it, it has been newly cleaned and polished. (There are still some stubborn spots on it.) As befits a vintage piece, it has light surface scratches.

While the bracelet has a delicate look, it has real heft. It weighs 1.06oz/30g. It is 8 1/2” long (21.5cm) x 3/8” wide (1cm).
