Charming retailer Vintage “Elf” Handknit Cardigan

I do not believe this sweet cardigan was ever worn. It is like new, though vintage. Handknit using the intarsia technique, it may have been one of the “Knit-o-Graph” patterns popular in the 50's and 60's. It features elves in green attire with white mushrooms on a red ground. On the back, the elves are jumping, one over the other.
The yarn feels like wool and the workmanship is outstanding. This is NOT easy knitting! The ribs are 2 x 2 and the front bands have a retailer seven button closure. There is a seed stitch on either side of bands which helps them lie flat. Sleeves are long and plain red with no patterning. Neckline has a simple crew neck. The cardigan buttons like a girl's, but there is no reason a boy couldn't wear it as well. It is rare to find a child's handknit in this condition and the motifs are great fun. Size is a 6.
