Box has been opened for inspection and photographs. This chess set was produced by Authentic Models and is no longer available from retailer the company. An exact replica of a 1795 Chess Box Set made by Englishman John Calvert, one of the top chess set makers from 1791 until his death in 1822. Each of the 32 pieces is intricately reproduced in faux ivory. The colors are red & white. The slender baluster stems and the unusual form of the King and Queen with pierced floral crowns, makes for an attractive and highly decorative design. Exquisite mahogany finished box with inlaid chessboard holds each individual piece in the interior drawers.
