The Playful Squirrel had 8 acorns. He hid 3. How many acorns did he have left?
10 frames are one of my favorite tools for helping children lean to count, develop a number sense, add, subtract, and develop strategies for problem solving! Children will enjoy playing and imagining with the the Playful Squirrel and acorns as they develop their math skills!
Ten-Frames are two-by-five rectangular frames into which counters are placed to illustrate numbers less than or equal to ten, and are therefore very useful devices for developing number sense within the context of ten. Use the ten frame to help little ones develop a concept of the number 10. The frame can be use to model addition retailer and subtraction.
Using a ten-frame, students can easily see that 6 is 1 more than 5 and 4 less than 10, or that 8 can be seen as "5 and 3 more" and as "2 away from 10." Once students are able to visualize the numbers 1 through 10, they begin to develop mental strategies for manipulating those numbers, all within the context of the numbers' relationship to ten.
This set comes with the 10 frame, 10 wooden acorns, and the 10 frame wooden squirrel and 10 wool balls.
